One day I received an email from one of our preschool moms saying she saw a Coyote at Magazine Park and wondered if there was a way to extend on this in our classroom. I was excited as recently I has also seen coyotes in my neighborhood. Our preschoolers have been interested in animals and as teachers we had been wondering how we could extend on their interest, this seemed like a perfect connection. The teachers added books and figurines of animals we may see in our community, we asked children about animals they have seen and the conversation began.
We have been doing a variety of activities including making bird seed feeders, watching the birds and squirrels eat the bird seed feeders in our front yard, we have been drawing animals and making/tracing animal tracks.
