On Tuesday Afternoon we made our first batch of paper. The paper is red and is now drying. We will continue making more paper of different colors.
We added two cups of hot water to 1/2 cup of cut up paper scraps. We then put it in the food processor and blended it to make a pulp. We poured the pulp into a flat pan and then slid a screen under the pulp. We drained the water from pulp and then placed the screen with the pulp on top of a blotter of newspaper and the covered it with more newspaper to absorb the water. We used a rolling pin and rolled it over to squeeze out the rest of the water. We are now letting the paper dry which takes between 12-24 hours! Check it out on the shelf in the art area!
Today Marica, Matilda's mom came in and made Poffertjes with us. Poffertjes are a traditional Dutch batter treat. They resemble pancakes. We adapted the recipe and used Gluten Free Flour to keep our friends with Gluten allergies safe. We also listened to music from Amsterdam. Matilda and her family are moving to Amsterdam,. Friday is their last day. We will enjoy the poffertjes for snack.
